I am always reading a book or two

My Favourite Books of All Time..well some of them!

One of the many joys in my life is reading; it started from a very young age. I will be forever grateful to my parents for instilling a love of books. It's hard to describe the pleasure of getting lost in a story; it's romantic to be swept away like that. To appreciate the beauty of language and the energy words can hold is still a wonder to me. I thought I would share my favourite books with you, the ones that made me laugh, cry, and mourn when it was time to say goodbye. The books listed below are in no particular order, they all live in my heart.

This book is like a rite of passage in my family. It is the story of King Arthur from the female perspective. Told by the women of the time, this story weaves mystical ancient wisdom into a centuries old tale. It's unlike anything you could imagine.

If Mists of Avalon is like a rite of passage in my family, then this book was our continuing studies text. Beautifully written and the story so tenderly held, it connects you to an ancient wisdom that women have always carried.

This book will stay with you, it lingers in your mind while you read it and long after you have finished it. It's such a beautiful story that I cannot do it justice here. The writing is true artistry and the story is profound.

This book is BIG, it's an investment to read, and it's worth it. I cried when I got to the end of this book. I slowed my page turning right down knowing the end was near. I mourned when the story was over. It changed me, it deepened my love of novels, and my respect for the power of a story.

I had an English prof in University who included this book on our reading list. I am forever grateful he did or I may not have found Zora Neale Hurston. This is a book I keep a hard copy of, and always will, so I can hand it to someone if we start talking great reads.

A far departure from Eat, Pray, Love. This novel is set in 1940's New York. It has showgirls, love affairs, sex, and what it means to find your own sense of freedom. Is it a core shaker? No, but I always find myself thinking about how much I enjoyed reading it.

They're good writers for a reason; it's why I have more than one of their books on the list. This is one of the BEST love stories I have ever read. So good, I have read this book more than once. You'll remember this one and think of the characters. You'll be reminded that you're never too old for love.

This was the most difficult book I have ever read. It is a tough read, but you will feel accomplished at the end of it. I love "the classics" and this one has a haunting beauty; it kept me coming back. Give yourself plenty of time, it feels like a winter read.

Told from the perspective of many characters, all living in the same town. This book is wonderful, one that I re-read every few years. The characters are intriguing, funny, and resilient and they are all wrapped into an incredible story.

You'll laugh, cry, cheer and hope throughout the pages of this book. It affects you just as much as it entertains you, how do they do that? It's magic I tell you. This book has an unlikely female heroine, a woman you never knew you needed.

Do me a favour and read the book before you watch the series? This is based on a true story; that alone is enough to shock and awe as you read. It's a big novel, but has so much depth you'll be glad of the length.Â
